The varnish sealing is also found in 7,5mm Nagant cartridges, but these 8x58RD blanks has a sawed off and shorten case. I have no documentation of these early rounds from 1896 so the use is open for speculations. | |
| IDnumber | 228 | | Caliber | 8x58RD | | Model | | | Projectile form | | | Projectile weight | | | Projectile material | Wood | | Projectile type | Blank | | Colour markings | | | V0 mps | | | V0 fps | - | | Propellant | | | Propellant weight Gram | | | Propellant weight Grain | - | With a case produced in 1892, we get close to the really early years of production for this caliber. This one is made by Keller & co and were loaded as a blank, probably on a reused case.
The oddity is in the projectile, as it is not coloured purple as it should for the time. The projectiles of other cartridges I have looked at has been dipp colored, so having dye all around and also of cause inside the internal hole of the back side. Here I cannot find any trace of paint.
The cartridge were emptied of the powder, so I cannot say if it were loaded with smokeless or black powder.
