This is the standard blank ammunition with a wooden bullet. It can be found with diffrent shades on the projectile, from red to purple.

This is a unusual 8x58RD blank that I only seen two of. The varnish sealing is also found in 7,5mm Nagant cartridges, but these 8x58RD blanks has a sawed off and shorten case. I have no documentation of these early rounds from 1896 so the use is open for speculations.

With a case produced in 1892, we get close to the really early years of production for this caliber. This one is made by Keller & co and were loaded as a blank, probably on a reused case.
The oddity is in the projectile, as it is not coloured purple as it should for the time. The projectiles of other cartridges I have looked at has been dipp colored, so having dye all around and also of cause inside the internal hole of the back side. Here I cannot find any trace of paint.
The cartridge were emptied of the powder, so I cannot say if it were loaded with smokeless or black powder.
