7,62x51 Ball
IDnumber | 77 | Caliber | 7,62x51 | Model | 7,62 mm Sk Ptr 10 PRICK | Projectile form | - | Projectile weight | 3,4 Gram | Projectile material | Tungsten | Projectile type | Ball | Colour markings | - | V0 mps | 1340 mps | V0 fps | - | Propellant | - | Propellant weight Gram | - | Propellant weight Grain | - | This is the Swedish defenses ammunition for PSG 90. It will increase the range from 800 meters to 1000 meters, one shot, one kill. The projectile is sub caliber and has a diameter of 4,81 mm. It’s kept in a sabot made of plastic and aluminum that releases from the projectile after it left the barrel.
The ammunition is made in USA by Winchester, and is a development of Winchesters SLAP (Sabot light armor piercing) ammunition. The development is much around the sabot to make the ammunition more accurate. 1998 Winchester got a order for one million rounds.
I would like to give a big thanks to Morten Støen for these pictures and for good additional information!

IDnumber | 233 | Caliber | 7,62x51 | Model | 7,62/10B NPTR | Projectile form | | Projectile weight | | Projectile material | | Projectile type | Ball | Colour markings | | V0 mps | | V0 fps | - | Propellant | | Propellant weight Gram | | Propellant weight Grain | - | Sweden has of lately been importing ammunition from abroad, and here I have a German round produced by MEN in 2018.
The ammunition is of "B" specification so the projectile is led free and the cartridge is of a more environmental friendly design.

IDnumber | 71 | Caliber | 7,62x51 | Model | 7,62 mm sk ptr 10 prj | Projectile form | Torpedo | Projectile weight | 9,5 Gram | Projectile material | Tombac jacket, led and antimony core.* | Projectile type | Ball | Colour markings | - | V0 mps | 785 mps | V0 fps | - | Propellant | NC1055 or Åkb 113 | Propellant weight Gram | 2,9 Gram | Propellant weight Grain | - | *About the projectiles material; the jacket was changed 1980 from tombac plated steel to solid tombac. There are two reasons for changing the jackets material. Firstly, the quality in production of the tombac jacket is higher than the quality of the steel jacket. That leads to a better precision for the ammunition. But the main reason for the change is that the tombac jacked bullet wears less on the barrel of the gun. The drawback is a higher price of the ammunition. The velocity figures differs quite much depending of what weapon is used:
AK 4 gives ca 790 mps v0
KSP 58 gives 830 mps v0
PSG 90 gives 900 mps v0 | |
IDnumber | 264 | Caliber | 7,62x51 | Model | 7,62 mm sk ptr 10 övnprj | Projectile form | | Projectile weight | 6,2 gram | Projectile material | | Projectile type | Ball | Colour markings | | V0 mps | 880 mps | V0 fps | - | Propellant | | Propellant weight Gram | | Propellant weight Grain | - | This reduced range ammunition is produced in 2004 by Karlsborg ammunition factory. It do not have a typically blue tip for training ammunition. Instead it has tree grooves in the projectile. It is unknown to me if the grooves have any technical functionality.
This cartridge comes from the box with ID 351. The cartridge has the same performance as a NATO ball up to 200 meters. The DMAX is 1500 meters, compared with a full patch cartridges of 4300 meters. | |
IDnumber | 252 | Caliber | 7,62x51 | Model | 7,62/10 PRICK LH | Projectile form | | Projectile weight | 10,5-10,9 gram | Projectile material | | Projectile type | Ball | Colour markings | | V0 mps | | V0 fps | - | Propellant | | Propellant weight Gram | | Propellant weight Grain | - | This Long Range ammunition is intended mainly for the sniper rifle PSG90 System, but can be fired in any other 7,62x51 weapon. The full designation is 7,62 MM SK PTR 10 PRICK LÅNGHÅLL.
Amkat of 2014 gives the projectile weight as 10,5 gram, and the NAMMO catalog of 2014 edition 4 (7.62 mm 51 Ball 11 Long Range) as 10,9 gram (160 grain).
The same states a V0 at 805 m/s. The high projectile weight of 10,9 gram, copmared with a normap PRJ of 9,5 gram, gives a increase of 50% energy at 800 meters. The accurecy is stated as 1MOA and a penetration of 3.5 mm NATO plate at 550 meters.
This cartridge is produced by Karlsborgs ammunition fabrik in 2013.
